Triathlon 1.0

So, a month and a half of real training and i was thrown in for my first triathlon with Pat and Tron. Only one 67 year old beat me, even though he was the only one who was 67 years old. But still, after finishing the race i felt pretty good. Only 3 and half minutes behind half iron man Pat. But then, i checked the final results i realized that didnt mean a whole lot on the grand scale of things.
First was the swim. And at this time, i was really wishing i would have practiced this portion of the race. But i didn't drown or get stung by a sting ray, but it was still pretty difficult. So, after what seemed like a maze of a course in the water, in which my goggles kept fogging up and I kept swimming the wrong way; i probably swam well over the 1.5k course due to all the zig zagging i was doing. And when i felt some little baby cramps as i was running out of the water i got a little worried.
The bike was a whole different story. Since i had only practiced this part of the race 2 times before, i wasnt really expecting a stellar performance. And i was exactly right. I made sure that i kept track of all the people i passed on the ride - one! It was a rather humbling bike ride. I just kept telling myself that the 43, 47, and 52 year olds that kept passing me most likely were on steroids. Or, maybe they just practiced this whole biking thing more than me. And the whole ride i was pretty worried, since i didn't see Pat once. And then, after 40k of biking, he too passed me, the last one. And i thought i had a chance.
And then the run - 10k. I was ready for this portion of the race. I could see Pat the entire time as he taunted me from 50 yards away, and Tron as he passed on the other side of the road. But, after plenty of water cups and near cramps, we all finished - Tron a little sooner than other.
And as it turned out, Tron ended up beating me by a full 10 minutes on the bike alone. And that was the difference in the whole race. Pat very well could have done the doggy paddle the entire swim, because he may have come close to the slowest swim of the day. But that didnt stop him from catching up to me on the bike - like most people.
Its official though. Tron took over the #1 seed. Here are the results.
